New Negele Borena Airport Officially Opened: A Major Boost for Tourism and Regional Connectivity
The Ethiopian Tour Operators Association (ETOA) is delighted to announce the official inauguration of the new Negele Borena Airport in South Eastern Ethiopia — an important milestone for the advancement of tourism, trade, investment, and regional integration in the Borena Zone and its surrounding areas.
The opening of the airport is expected to significantly improve accessibility to one of Ethiopia’s culturally rich and naturally attractive regions, creating new opportunities for domestic and international tourism development. Enhanced air connectivity will facilitate easier movement of travelers, investors, tour operators, and business communities while reducing travel time and improving overall travel convenience.
Borena and the wider South Eastern corridor possess immense tourism potential, including unique cultural heritage, traditional pastoralist lifestyles, stunning landscapes, wildlife resources, and authentic indigenous experiences. The new airport is therefore expected to serve as a strategic gateway for the promotion and development of these untapped destinations.
In addition to strengthening tourism, the airport is anticipated to contribute substantially to regional socio-economic growth by encouraging investment, improving market access, supporting job creation, and enhancing mobility for local communities.
ETOA congratulates all stakeholders involved in the successful completion of this important infrastructure project and expresses its optimism that the airport will play a transformative role in positioning South Eastern Ethiopia as an emerging tourism destination.
The Association also encourages tour operators, investors, airlines, and tourism stakeholders to actively explore and develop new tourism products and experiences in the region, taking advantage of the improved accessibility now made possible through the new airport.
