Ethiopian Airlines has launched direct flights from Addis Ababa to Debre Markos, opening up northwest Ethiopia's highlands to tourists and travelers for the first time.
Ethiopian Airlines has officially inaugurated direct passenger service between Addis Ababa and Debre Markos Airport (IATA: DBM), marking a major milestone for regional connectivity and economic development in the historic capital of the East Gojjam Zone in the Amhara Regional State.
The inaugural flight was met with vibrant celebrations, with a high-level government delegation — including Amhara Regional State Chief Minister Arega Kebede and Industry Minister Melaku Alebel, alongside senior airline executives — among the first passengers to land at the newly upgraded airport.
The new route connects Addis Ababa to Debre Markos with flights operating three times a week, using a DHC-8-Q400 turboprop aircraft.
Debre Markos serves as a vital gateway to historical and natural attractions in northwest Ethiopia, making it easier for international travelers landing at Bole International Airport to seamlessly transition to regional excursions.
This opening is part of a broader expansion: Ethiopian Airlines has inaugurated three new domestic airports — at Negele Borena, Gore Metu, and Debre Markos — expanding its domestic network to 26 destinations, strengthening internal connectivity and supporting tourism and regional economic development.
