ETOA FAM Trip 2026 – Final Wrap-Up: The Road That Brought Us Together

Eight days. Countless miles. And a journey that gave us far more than we expected.

Yes, we saw breathtaking landscapes, encountered extraordinary wildlife, and immersed ourselves in vibrant cultures. We captured thousands of photographs and gathered memories to last a lifetime. But the real treasure of this FAM trip wasn't found in any destination — it was found in each other.

We began as strangers and colleagues, connected only by profession. Yet somewhere between the shared meals, long drives, laughter, and late-night conversations, we became something deeper. A family.

Credit goes to a simple but brilliant decision: rotating vehicle assignments daily. It may have seemed like logistics, but it turned out to be the glue that bonded us. Each day brought new seatmates, new stories, and new connections. Barriers dissolved. Friendships formed. And the family came together faster than anyone anticipated.

Then there was the ever-shifting highlight of the journey. Normally, a trip has one unforgettable climax. But here, each day outshone the last. Just when we thought we had seen the best, the next destination surprised us again. That, in essence, is Ethiopia — a country too vast and too diverse to be captured in a single moment.

We travelled for eight days, yet it felt like eighty. Because we explored only a fragment of this giant nation. That thought alone should humble us as tourism professionals. How much more remains undiscovered? How many stories, communities, and experiences are still waiting to be shared with the world?

Perhaps the most profound lesson came not from the places we visited, but from how we learned to see our products.

Take coffee. We could sell it as just a beverage. But we were reminded to tell its full story — from its birth in Ethiopian highlands to its transformation into a global ritual that unites people across cultures. Ethiopian coffee, Turkish coffee, American coffee — each carries a story. The product travelled. The story travelled. And the experience evolved.

That is how we must approach tourism. Not as a transaction, but as a connection between people, cultures, and stories. That is what makes us true masters of our craft.

This FAM trip was never an ending. It was an ice-breaker. A catalyst for stronger synergy among tour operators, tourism bureaus, Ethiopian Airlines, destination managers, communities, and every stakeholder who shapes Ethiopian tourism.

For too long, we may have seen each other as competitors. But this journey reminded us of a greater truth: competition has its place, but cooperation grows the entire industry. When one of us succeeds, Ethiopia succeeds. When one destination thrives, the whole country benefits. Together, we can achieve far more than we ever could alone.

So let us take this message home:

Compete in excellence. Cooperate in development.

Share knowledge. Build partnerships. Support the destinations we serve. Promote Ethiopia not as isolated attractions, but as one extraordinary, interconnected experience. Because Ethiopia is too vast and too beautiful for any single entity to carry its story alone.

We started as individuals. We became colleagues. Then companions. And finally, a family.

Now, let us carry that spirit forward. Let us turn what we've seen into itineraries. Turn conversations into partnerships. Turn photographs into promotion. Turn challenges into solutions. And turn this experience into a stronger, more united Ethiopian tourism industry.

Our deepest gratitude goes to the ETOA Board — especially those on the ground, steering every moment for making this journey possible.

To our hosts, tourism bureaus, park authorities, guides, scouts, drivers, hotels, and communities — thank you for opening your doors and sharing your Ethiopia with us.

And to my fellow travellers: thank you for your companionship, patience, laughter, and friendship. Thank you for making eight days feel like eighty.

We came to discover destinations. We leave having discovered one another.

This is not the end. It is the beginning of stronger cooperation, new partnerships, and a shared vision for Ethiopian tourism.

We have travelled only a small corner of this giant country. There is so much more ahead — roads to explore, stories to tell, and people to connect.

Let us go forward together. Let us know our products. Let us know our country. Let us know one another. And let us work together to let the world know Ethiopia.

We came as a group. We leave as a family. May this family become the foundation of a stronger, more united, and more prosperous Ethiopian tourism industry.

Thank you, my friends. May our roads lead us safely home — and may they bring us together again on many more journeys ahead.

The journey ends here. But the story has just begun
