On May 1, 2026, in Bishoftu, the Ethiopian Tour Operators Association (ETOA)—an affiliate member of UN Tourism—and the Oromia Tourism Commission (OTC) officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), marking a significant milestone in strengthening institutional collaboration for the sustainable development and promotion of Ethiopia’s tourism sector.

The agreement was signed by Ato Nega Wedajo, Deputy Commissioner of the Oromia Tourism Commission, and Ato Fitsum Gezahegn, Board President of the Ethiopian Tour Operators Association. The signing ceremony was attended by senior officials, including representatives from the Bishoftu Tourism Commission, with Ato Dejene present following the MoU signing.

This strategic partnership underscores a shared commitment to advancing destination development, strengthening coordinated tourism marketing, enhancing service excellence, and promoting Oromia’s rich natural, cultural, and historical assets to both domestic and international markets. It further reflects a unified vision to build a competitive, inclusive, and globally recognized tourism industry that contributes meaningfully to economic growth, job creation, and Ethiopia’s international image.
